Chapas. History and Transition

Chapas
“Chapas. History and Transition” is a show with nearly a thousand parts originating from the archives of Juan Mirat and Publichap, one of the pioneering Spanish manufacturing companies in this type of medium. With a structure based on a double criteria – thematic and chronological – the exhibition carries out, through badges, a journey through more than three decades of Spanish history. From the “Nuclear stations? No, thanks” badge to “NATO, no from the start” and also “No to war” and “Couso murdered”. An interesting and extremely worthwhile aesthetic and sociological journey through our country’s history, explaining why such a modest economical medium like the badge has been able to become an excellent means of transmitting all kinds of messages, whether solemn, in protest, recreational or completely insignificant.

Organised by the magazine Visual and co-commissioned by Álvaro Sobrino and Eduardo Bravo in collaboration with Viscom-Sign.
